Regular Season Round 35: Porvoon Tarmo - Salon Vilpas 82-65
Date: February 16, 2011
Bottom-ranked Porvoon Tarmo managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of eleven consecutive loses on Wednesday night. This time newly promoted Porvoon Tarmo won against tenth-ranked Salon Vilpas 82-65. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 17-point difference suggests that Porvoon Tarmo is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-65. Porvoon Tarmo outrebounded Salon Vilpas 34-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jerrah Young (202-85, college: Toledo) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Jonathan Heard (198-86) accounted for 26 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Young is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Nicchaeus Doaks (202-87, college: Chattanooga, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and guard Roope Ahonen (187-90) added 15 points respectively for Salon Vilpas in the defeat. Newly promoted Porvoon Tarmo maintains twelfth place with 5-30 record. Loser Salon Vilpas keeps the tenth position with 23 games lost. Porvoon Tarmo will meet league's second-placed KTP-Basket in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Salon Vilpas will play against Namika Lahti (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
