Second Stage Round 17: Atenas - Olimpico LB 75-78

The most exciting game of round 17 in the LigaA took place in Cordoba. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Atenas (11-6) to fifteenth ranked Olimpico de La Banda (5-10) 78-75 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 46-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American center Djibril Kante (201-80, college: Indiana St.) who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Andre Laws (186-80, college: San Diego, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 23 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American forward Gregory Lewis (198-78, college: Winthrop, agency: Dream Team Management) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and guard Juan Manuel Rivero (191-85) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Atenas' coach Sebastian Gonzalez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Olimpico de La Banda moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes. Atenas at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Lanus. Olimpico de La Banda is looking forward to face higher ranked Quimsa (#7) in Santiado Estero in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Atenas will play at home against Club 9 (#10) in Rio Tercero and is hoping to win this game.
