Important game to mention about took place in Mar del Plata. Sixth ranked Penarol (10-6) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Libertad Sunchales (8-8) 61-59 on Friday evening. It looked good early as Libertad Sunchales took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Penarol had a 15-10 second period charge getting the lead and Libertad Sunchales was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-61. American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey, agency: KMG Sports Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Martin Leiva (208-80) contributed with 8 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Lamonte is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import center Robert Battle (204-81, college: Drexel, agency: Dream Team Management) added 6 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Libertad Sunchales. Penarol have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Libertad Sunchales lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Penarol will play against bottom-ranked Sionista (#16) in Parana in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Libertad Sunchales will play on the road against Monte Hermoso (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
