Regular Season Round 16: Olympiakos - Apollon Ptol. 59-78

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Apollon (9-7) crushed 11th ranked Olympiakos (2-14) in Athens 78-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Apollon. Olympiakos was better in second period 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Olympiakos 42-30 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for American forward Kaili McLaren (188-88, college: Connecticut) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists. Nigerian-American power forward Nkem Nkele (185-86, college: Cal-Riverside) contributed with 8 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Guard Maria Kiritsaka (168-87) replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds and center Asimina Koutsounouri (190) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Olympiakos. Four Olympiakos players scored in double figures. Apollon moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and Panionios. Olympiakos lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Apollon will face league's leader Athinaikos in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Olympiakos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panathinaikos.
