Regular Season Round 31: Toshiba BT - Hitachi SR 63-64

Important game to mention about took place in Kanagawa. Fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (15-16) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Toshiba Thunders (15-16) 64-63 in the fight for the fourth place. Toshiba Thunders were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated on the defensive end, holding Toshiba Thunders to just 7 points in second quarter. It was a great evening for the former international center Joji Takeuchi (206-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Tyler Smith (203-80, college: Penn St.) helped adding 16 points. At the losing side American forward Charles O'Bannon (198-75, college: UCLA) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Shohei Kikuchi (190-85) scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toshiba. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toshiba Thunders will play again at home against Hitachi Sunrockers (#5) in Osaka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
