Regular Season Round 36: Kataja - ToPo 87-85

Eighth-ranked Torpan Pojat (16-20) gave a tough game to third ranked Joensuun Kataja (25-11). Joensuun Kataja managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Torpan Pojat took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Joensuun Kataja had a 27-20 second period charge getting the lead and Torpan Pojat was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-87. The winners were led by American power forward Darren Fells (201-86, agency: Court Side) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Juho Nenonen (202-87) supported him with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Even 14 points and 5 assists by American guard Frank Richards (188-82, college: Kansas St.) did not help to save the game for Torpan Pojat. Forward Timo Heinonen (198-81) added 18 points. Five Joensuun Kataja and four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have an impressive five-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja maintains third position with 25-11 record having six points less than leader Pyrinto. Torpan Pojat lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 20 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will play against league's leader Tampereen Pyrinto on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Torpan Pojat will play against Salon Vilpas (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
