Regular Season Round 14: MIA Academy - Batumi 91-75
Date: February 19, 2011
There was no surprise in Tbilisi where 7th ranked Batumi (4-9) was defeated by second ranked MIA (11-3) 91-75. The game was mostly controlled by MIA. Batumi was better in fourth quarter 28-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Batumi to just 6 points in first quarter. MIA had a 34-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Naturalized Azerbaijan forward Davit Barbakadze (203-82) notched 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Beka Tsivtsivadze (190-89) supported him with 8 points and 10 assists. MIA's coach David Ustiashvili used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 29 points and 5 rebounds by guard Duda Sanadze (196-92) did not help to save the game for Batumi. Naturalized Russian center Giorgi Kvelashvili (206-81) added 15 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. MIA have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-3 record behind leader Army. Batumi at the other side keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. MIA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena .
