Important game to mention about took place in Kanagawa. Fourth ranked Toshiba Thunders (16-16) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (15-17) 56-53 in the fight for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. Hitachi Sunrockers cut a 14-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. Toshiba Thunders dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Sunrockers to just 7 points in first quarter. The winners were led by American power forward Cory Violette (203-82, college: Gonzaga) who scored that evening 20 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Charles O'Bannon (198-75, college: UCLA) supported him with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Even a double-double of 14 points and 20 rebounds by the former international center Joji Takeuchi (206-85) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. Cameroonian power forward Alfred Aboya (206-85, college: UCLA) added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders maintains fourth position with 16-16 record. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will play against higher ranked Toyota Alvark (#3) in Fuchu in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Osaka Panasonic Trians.
