Eighth-ranked Hokkaido (8-24) gave a tough game to first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (24-8) in Kariya on Sunday. Aishin Sea Horses managed to secure only one-point victory 99-98. However their fans expected much easier game. Hokkaido cut a 19-point halftime deficit to tie the game at the end of regular time. But they lost double-overtime period 19-20. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Aishin Sea Horses made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (205-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Shinsuke Kashiwagi (183-81) who added 14 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. American forward Jai Lewis (201-83, college: George Mason, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) scored 30 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Aishin Sea Horses maintains first position with 24-8 record. Hokkaido lost seventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Aishin Sea Horses are looking forward to face Tochigi Brex (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Hokkaido will play against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
