Regular Season Round 35: Sendai 89ers - Toyama Grouses 67-62

Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Toyama Grouses (10-22) were defeated on the road by second ranked Sendai 89ers (21-11) 67-62 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-11. But Toyama Grouses won third quarter 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Toyama Grouses 47-36 including 18 on the offensive glass. The game was also dominated by American players. It was a great evening for power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds. Forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) helped adding 16 points and 13 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Honoo Hamaguchi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Brian Harper (208-85, college: Paine) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and forward Jerrell Smith (206-85, college: Cal.St.-Dominguez H.) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sendai 89ers maintains second place with 21-11 record having nine points less than leader Osaka Evessa. Toyama Grouses lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 22 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face Kyoto Hannaryz (#5) at home in the next round. Toyama Grouses will play against Shiga Lakestars.
