Regular Season Round 23: Clermont - Maurienne 65-87

Very expected game when 17th ranked Stade Clermont (5-18) was crushed at home by ninth ranked Aix-Maurienne (13-10) 87-65 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Aix-Maurienne. Stade Clermont was better in third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Stade Clermont to just 6 points in second quarter. Aix-Maurienne shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized Cameroonian guard Joachim Ekanga-Ehawa (188-77) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists. Gambian forward Moses Sonko (196-83, college: Co.Carolina) helped adding 19 points. Four Aix-Maurienne players scored in double figures. Aix-Maurienne's coach Guillaume Quintard felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Swingman Mathieu Guichard (188-88) responded with 15 points and 6 assists and American forward Tremaine Ford (207-86, college: Cal.St. Northridge) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Aix-Maurienne moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Boulazac. Stade Clermont lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 18 games lost. Aix-Maurienne will face league's leader SPO Rouen at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Stade Clermont will play against Lille Metropole (#13).
