Date: February 26, 2011
Bottom-ranked Hokkaido managed to get a ninth victory, breaking the series of seven consecutive loses. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya 89-61. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 28-point difference suggests that Hokkaido is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Hokkaido. Mitsubishi Dolphins was better in second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hokkaido made 24-of-28 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Mitsubishi Dolphins only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Mitsubishi Dolphins 49-35 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) nailed 26 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and the former international guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) accounted for 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Hokkaido players scored in double figures. American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and American-Spanish forward Ontario Lett (198-79, college: Pittsburgh) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Mitsubishi Dolphins in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hokkaido maintains eighth place with 9-24 record. Mitsubishi Dolphins lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 23 games lost. Hokkaido will have a break next round.
