Regular Season Round 19: Iraklis - Kavala 83-79

Bottom-ranked Iraklis managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time newly promoted Iraklis won against sixth-ranked Kavala in Thessaloniki 83-79. It looked good early as Kavala took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Iraklis had a 28-18 second period charge getting the lead and Kavala was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-83. Kavala was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Smush Parker (193-81, college: Fordham) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Jerome Coleman (185-81, college: Rutgers) accounted for 12 points for the winning side. Belizean guard Milton Palacio (190-78, college: Colorado St.) came up with 23 points and 7 assists and American power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) added 12 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Kavala in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Iraklis (5-14) moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with AEK and Ilysiakos. Kavala lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Peristeri GS. Iraklis will play against league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kavala will play at home against Aris (#6) in Thessaloniki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
