Regular Season Round 21: Verviers-Pep. - Liege 76-74

The most exciting game of round 21 in the D1 took place in Verviers. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Belgacom Liege (6-11) to eighth ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (6-11) 76-74 in the game for the sixth place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Belgacom Liege won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Stefon Jackson (196-85, college: UTEP) who scored 22 points (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import guard Domonic Jones (186-81, college: Va Commonwealth) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four VOO Verviers-Pepinster players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Guy Muya (190-83, agency: LBM Management) who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized DR Congolese swingman Wen Boss Mukubu (198-83, college: UAB, agency: SportsTalent) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively. VOO Verviers-Pepinster moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Leuven and Liege. VOO Verviers-Pepinster is looking forward to face higher ranked Antwerp Giants (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Belgacom Liege will play against Leuven Bears and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
