Regular Season Round 36: Sendai 89ers - Kyoto Hannar. 79-87

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Sendai 89ers (21-12) against fifth ranked Kyoto Hannaryz (18-17) on Saturday night. Host Sendai 89ers were defeated by Kyoto Hannaryz in a tough game in Sendai 79-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sendai 89ers. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-17. But Sendai 89ers won second period 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kyoto Hannaryz looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (186-69, college: LSU) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 5 assists and swingman Taizon Kawabe (190-82) who added 12 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Mac Hopson (188-87, college: Idaho) with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and his fellow American import forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Sendai 89ers' coach Honoo Hamaguchi let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kyoto Hannaryz maintains fifth position with 18-17 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the second place with 12 games lost. Kyoto Hannaryz will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sendai 89ers will play again against Kyoto Hannaryz and hope to secure a win.
