Regular Season Round 36: Oita H.Devils - Shimane SM 66-71

The biggest surprise of round 36 in BJ League was guest Shimane Magic's (#6) road victory over Oita Heat Devils (#7) 71-66 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning two of next three quarters and won the game by 5 points. Strangely Oita Heat Devils outrebounded Shimane Magic 46-30 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Oita Heat Devils helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Takumi Ishizaki (188-84) who scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. American center Jeral Davis (216-84) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Shimane Magic players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Cyrus Tate (203-85, college: Iowa, agency: Edge Sports) who recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and his fellow American import forward Taj Finger (203-86) added 13 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Oita Heat Devils' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Shimane Magic have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 16-19 record. Oita Heat Devils at the other side keep the seventh place with 20 games lost. Shimane Magic will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Oita Heat Devils will play again at home against Shimane Magic (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
