Top ranked New Zealand Breakers (18-5) recorded its fifth loss in Gwynneville on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by sixth ranked Wollongong Hawks (11-12) 104-81. The game without a history. Wollongong Hawks led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 38 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Wollongong Hawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Gary Ervin (186-83, college: Arkansas) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 assists. The former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) chipped in 22 points. Guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin) produced 25 points and Fiji-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (197-82) added 10 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Wollongong Hawks moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Blaze. New Zealand Breakers at the other side still keep top position with five games lost. Wollongong Hawks is looking forward to face league's second-placed Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
