The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventh ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins' (11-23) home victory over bottom-ranked Hokkaido (9-25) in Nagoya 86-68 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Mitsubishi Dolphins. Hokkaido managed to win fourth quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mitsubishi Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Hokkaido's 24. They outrebounded Hokkaido 49-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. Guard Kazuyuki Nakagawa (180-82) notched 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Five Mitsubishi Dolphins players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds by Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) did not help to save the game for Hokkaido. The former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) added 17 points for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Mitsubishi Dolphins maintains seventh position with 11-23 record. Loser Hokkaido stay dead last with 25 lost games. Mitsubishi Dolphins will meet league's second-placed Panasonic Trians in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Hokkaido will play against Hitachi Sunrockers (#5) in Osaka and hope to secure a win.
