A very interesting game took place in Alicante. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 16th ranked Meridiano Alicante (7-15) to eleventh ranked Asefa Estudiantes (11-11) 71-69 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-17. But Meridiano Alicante won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Nik Caner-Medley (203-83, college: Maryland, agency: Priority Sports) notched 25 points to lead the effort and American-Dominican power forward Josh Asselin (211-78, college: Michigan, agency: Duran International) supported him with 13 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 19 points and 6 rebounds by Slovakian power forward Martin Rancik (204-78, college: Iowa St.) did not help to save the game for Meridiano Alicante. Guard Pedro Llompart (190-82) added 13 points and 8 assists for lost side. Asefa Estudiantes have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with DKV Joventut and Unicaja. Meridiano Alicante at the other side dropped to the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. Asefa Estudiantes' next round opponent will be Unicaja Malaga (#11) at home. Meridiano Alicante will play against Assignia Manresa (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
