Regular Season Round 34: Hitachi SR - Panasonic T. 64-72

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Osaka: Panasonic Trians (#2) and Hitachi Sunrockers (#5). Hitachi Sunrockers were defeated at home 64-72 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-18. But Hitachi Sunrockers won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panasonic Trians made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Hiroyuki Kinoshita (178-80) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Jerald Honeycutt (205-74, college: Tulane) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Panasonic Trians players scored in double figures. Guard Daisuke Kobayashi (189-87) replied with 18 points and Cameroonian power forward Alfred Aboya (206-85, college: UCLA) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panasonic Trians (24-10) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position behind leader Aishin. Hitachi Sunrockers lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 19 games lost. Panasonic Trians are looking forward to face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against Hokkaido in Saporro and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
