Regular Season Round 22: Blancos de R. - Real Madrid 74-65

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Valladolid. Third ranked Blancos de Rueda faced their biggest opponent Real Madrid. Host Blancos de Rueda (14-8) defeated guests from Madrid (17-5) 74-65. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-9. But Real Madrid won second period 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Blancos de Rueda dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Real Madrid's 24 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. American power forward Marcus Slaughter (204-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Beo Basket) fired 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward Jason Robinson (196-80, college: Pikeville) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds. International guard Sergio Llull (190-87) produced 12 points and 5 assists and the former international guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blancos de Rueda maintains third position with 14-8 record having five points less than leader Regal Barca, which they share with Valencia. Real Madrid at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. Blancos de Rueda is looking forward to face Power Electronics Valencia (#4) on the road in the next round. Real Madrid will play against DKV Joventut in Badalona and is hoping to win this game.
