Rather predictable result in Rishon Le-Zion where fourth ranked Maccabi Rishon (11-8) defeated 7th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (8-11) 80-76. It looked good early as Maccabi Ashdod took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Rishon had a 24-21 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Ashdod was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-80. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Rishon especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Maccabi Ashdod was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Aaron McGhee (202-79, college: Oklahoma) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Nizan Hanochi (194-86) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. The former international guard Meir Tapiro (194-75, agency: Avi Zilberman) came up with 24 points and American power forward Josh Duncan (204-86) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Maccabi Ashdod in the defeat. Maccabi Rishon maintains fourth place with 11-8 record, which they share with Galil Gilboa. Maccabi Ashdod lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Maccabi Rishon will play against Elitzur Netanya (#8) on the road in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Galil Gilboa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
