Second Stage Round 22: Lanus - Penarol 76-70

The game between Top Four teams took place in Buenos Aires. Second ranked host Lanus (15-7) defeated one of their biggest challengers Penarol (13-9) 76-70. Penarol trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 21-13 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 70-76 at the end of the game. Lanus outrebounded Penarol 33-18 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Penarol helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Panamanian power forward Jamaal Levy (206-83, college: Wake Forest, agency: Priority Sports) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Italian swingman Adrian Boccia (196-82) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Selem Safar (190-87) responded with 21 points and international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lanus maintains second position with 15-7 record behind leader Obras. Defending champion Penarol keeps the third place with nine games lost. They share the position with Gimnasia CR and La Union. Lanus are looking forward to face Club 9 (#10) in Rio Tercero in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Penarol will play at home against Atenas (#6) in Cordoba and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
