Regular Season Round 36: Toyota Alvark - Tochigi Brex 65-89

The most important game in the last round took place in Fuchu between third ranked Toyota Alvark (23-13) and sixth ranked Tochigi Brex (15-21) on Sunday night. Toyota Alvark was crushed by Tochigi Brex at home 89-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. The game was mostly controlled by Tochigi Brex. Toyota Alvark managed to win second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tochigi Brex dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota Alvark's 32. The best player for the winners was American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Ken Tanaka (188-81, college: Whittier) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Tochigi Brex and four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 15-21 record. Toyota Alvark at the other side keeps the third place with 13 games lost. Tochigi Brex are looking forward to face league's second-placed Panasonic Trians in Osaka in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toyota Alvark will play on the road against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and is hoping to win this game.
