Regular Season Round 39: Saitama Bron. - Sendai 89ers 86-95

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Saitama Broncos (14-24) were defeated at home by second ranked Sendai 89ers (24-12) 95-86 on Sunday. Saitama Broncos trailed 42-39 at halftime, rallying from a 29-16 deficit at the end of first quarter to trim the gap. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Saitama Broncos were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Mac Hopson (188-87, college: Idaho) who scored 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) chipped in 9 points and 19 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Kenny Satterfield (188-81, college: Cincinnati) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals and Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fairleigh Dickinson) added 26 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively. Sendai 89ers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 24-12 record having ten points less than leader Osaka Evessa. Saitama Broncos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 24 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face Niigata Albirex (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Saitama Broncos will play against Toyama Grouses and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
