Regular Season Round 39: Toyama Grouses - Niigata Albirex 82-79

The most exciting game of round 39 in the BJ League took place in Toyama. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Niigata Albirex (19-17) to sixth ranked Toyama Grouses (12-24) 82-79 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Niigata Albirex. The hosts trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 30-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American swingman Brian Harper (208-85, college: Paine) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Matthew Kyle (211-86, college: Yale) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Trinidad and Tobago power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado) who recorded 24 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Zachary Andrews (203-85, college: Bradley) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Five Toyama Grouses and four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex's coach Masaya Hirose tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses maintains sixth place with 12-24 record. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the third position with 17 games lost. Toyama Grouses are looking forward to face higher ranked Saitama Broncos (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Niigata Albirex will play against the league's second-placed Sendai 89ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
