The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Hapoel T-A (20-2) in Habikaa on Tuesday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked Maccabi HBK (16-6) in overtime 105-103. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hapoel T-A. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Hapoel T-A was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 25-19 charge of Maccabi HBK, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 19-16. Maccabi HBK made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Hapoel T-A helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international forward Itay Lev (202-80) scored 21 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Noam Matalon (197-87, agency: Avi Zilberman) chipped in 21 points during the contest. At the losing side American forward Brian Asbury (200-86, college: Miami (FL)) responded with 41 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and guard Gal Eytan (182-87, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) scored 18 points and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Five Maccabi HBK and four Hapoel T-A players scored in double figures. Maccabi HBK maintains second position with 16-6 record having four points less than leader Hapoel T-A. Newly promoted Hapoel T-A still keeps top place with two games lost. Maccabi HBK are looking forward to face Hapoel Beeri (#13) in Beer-Shev in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Hapoel T-A will play at home against Hapoel Afula (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
