Regular Season Round 40: KTP - Kauhajoki 90-94

The most important game in the last round took place in Kotka between second ranked KTP-Basket (28-12) and seventh ranked Kauhajoen Karhu (19-20) on Wednesday night. KTP-Basket was defeated by Kauhajoen Karhu in a tough game at home 90-94. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But KTP-Basket won third quarter 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kauhajoen Karhu won last quarter 23-20. Kauhajoen Karhu outrebounded KTP-Basket 41-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Vesa Makalainen (200-86) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American forward Jeremiah Wood (200-85, agency: Court Side) who added 16 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American forward Jerald Fields (201-82, college: E.Tenn.St., agency: Lanshire Group) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American forward Clifton Jones (201-78, college: Oregon St.) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. KTP-Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kauhajoen Karhu maintains seventh position with 19-20 record. KTP-Basket at the other side keeps the second place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Kataja. Kauhajoen Karhu are looking forward to face higher ranked Espoo Honka (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. KTP-Basket will play against the league's second-placed Joensuun Kataja having rather not much hope for a victory.
