Regular Season Round 24: Lagun Aro GBC - Real Madrid 78-88 OT

Fourteenth-ranked Lagun Aro GBC (9-15) gave a tough game to second ranked Real Madrid (19-5) in San Sebastian on Thursday. The visitors from Madrid managed to secure only ten-point victory 88-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Lagun Aro GBC was better in fourth quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Lagun Aro GBC used huge pressure winning it 24-19 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 2-12. Real Madrid looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Sergio Llull (190-87) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 4 assists and forward Carlos Suarez (202-86, agency: Court Side) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Andy Panko (204-77, college: Lebanon Valley) with 31 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Jimmy Baron (191-86, college: Rhode Island) scored 16 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Real Madrid maintains second position with 19-5 record behind leader Regal Barca. Lagun Aro GBC at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 15 games lost. Real Madrid will face Meridiano Alicante (#16) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Lagun Aro GBC will play against Blancos de Rueda in Valladolid.
