Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Cairns Taipans (13-12) defeated at home 7th ranked Melbourne Tigers (9-15) 79-63. The game was mostly controlled by Cairns Taipans. Melbourne Tigers was better in second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for American swingman Ronald Dorsey (197-83, college: McNeese St.) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 8 rebounds. British-New Zealand guard Phill Jones (196-74) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Jamaican-American guard Corey Williams (191-77, college: Alabama St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international power forward Matthew Burston (210-82) added 18 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Melbourne Tigers. Cairns Taipans maintains fifth position with 13-12 record. Melbourne Tigers at the other side keep the seventh place with 15 games lost. Cairns Taipans' next round opponent will be higher ranked Wollongong Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville and it may be quite challenging game.
