Regular Season Round 18: Panionios - Amarillida 68-47

Bottom-ranked Amarillida (0-18) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 68-47 loss to seventh ranked Panionios (10-8) in Athens on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Panionios led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Amarillida's 26. Panionios forced 23 Amarillida turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Amarillida's players. Swingman Vaso Tremkatzi (180-87) scored 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Kary Koch (173-83, college: Missouri St.) chipped in 8 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Julie Stefanidou (172-90) with 10 points and 5 rebounds and guard Iro Valantasi (188-86) scored 8 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panionios moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panathinaikos and FEA Neas. Newly promoted Amarillida still closes the standings. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Olympiakos.
