Regular Season Round 18: Olympiakos - Aris 43-62

There was no surprise in Athens where 11th ranked Olympiakos (2-16) was crushed by second ranked Aris (13-5) 62-43 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Aris. Olympiakos was better in fourth quarter 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aris dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Olympiakos' 24. Aris forced 23 Olympiakos turnovers. The best player for the winners was forward Anna Spiridopoulou (182-88) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Serbian power forward Ivana Grubor (185-84) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Aris players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Aristea Maglara (168-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and center Asimina Koutsounouri (190) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Aris have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-5 record having five points less than leader Athinaikos. Olympiakos lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 16 games lost. Aris will face league's leader Athinaikos in Athens in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Olympiakos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panionios.
