Everything went according to plan in Madrid where eleventh ranked Asefa Estudiantes (13-12) beat 17th ranked CB Granada (5-20) 83-73 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Asefa Estudiantes. CB Granada was better in second period 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Asefa Estudiantes won last quarter 23-14. American forward Nik Caner-Medley (203-83, college: Maryland, agency: Priority Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and guard Sergio Sanchez (190-81) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Asefa Estudiantes players scored in double figures. Asefa Estudiantes' coach Luis Casimiro allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American guard Coby Karl (196-83, college: Boise St.) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Brazilian center Paulo Prestes (210-88) scored 9 points and 10 rebounds. Asefa Estudiantes moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser CB Granada keeps the seventeenth position with 20 games lost. Asefa Estudiantes will face league's leader Regal FC Barcelona on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
