Second Stage Round 25: Boca Jrs - Atenas 76-72

There was an upset in Buenos Aires where higher ranked Atenas (14-11) was defeated by twelfth ranked Boca Juniors (11-15) 76-72 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 30-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Atenas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Rodney Elliott (202-76, college: Maryland) stepped up and scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and power forward Fernando Martina (202-81) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the losing side the former international guard Bruno Labaque (183-77, agency: Interperformances) responded with 19 points and 5 assists and the former international swingman Matias Lescano (196-79) scored 14 points. Five Boca Juniors and four Atenas players scored in double figures. Boca Juniors moved-up to eleventh place. Atenas at the other side keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Boca Juniors will face higher ranked Quimsa (#9) in Santiado Estero in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Atenas will play on the road against Lanus (#4) having rather not much hope for a victory.
