Bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 90-80 loss to fifth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (3-2) in Guaymas on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Ostioneros de Guaymas. Coras de Tepic was better in second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ostioneros de Guaymas made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ostioneros de Guaymas made 15 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) who scored 23 points. The former international center Omar Lopez (203-80, college: Cal.Baptist) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Ostioneros de Guaymas and four Coras de Tepic players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ostioneros de Guaymas. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nogales and Cananea. Coras de Tepic lost their fifth game in a row. They still closes the standings with five games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas will face again bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
