Regular Season Round 29: Melilla - CB Canarias 81-83

A very interesting game took place in Melilla. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 9th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (14-15) to sixth ranked La Laguna (16-13) 83-81 on Friday evening. It looked good early as Melilla Baloncesto took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then La Laguna had a 21-15 second period charge getting the lead and Melilla Baloncesto was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-83. The former international power forward Jesus Chagoyen (202-78) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Greek forward Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83) accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. American-Austrian guard Jason Detrick (198-80, college: Oklahoma) came up with 21 points and power forward Miguel Montanana (206-80) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Melilla Baloncesto in the defeat. Four Melilla Baloncesto players scored in double figures. Melilla Baloncesto's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. La Laguna moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Caceres. Melilla Baloncesto lost their third game in a row. Melilla Baloncesto at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost. La Laguna's next round opponent will be Leche Rio Breogan (#11) in Lugo which should be theoretically an easy game. Melilla Baloncesto will play on the road against Lleida Basquet.
