Regular Season Round 18: Kutaisi - Sokhumi 82-81

The most exciting game of round 18 in the Superleague took place in Kutaisi. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Sokhumi (10-7) to third ranked Kutaisi (12-4) 82-81 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sokhumi. Sokhumi trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 23-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-82 at the end of the game. Kutaisi looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. It was a good game for forward Giorgi Barbakadze (203-91) who saved his team from a defeat with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Buba Kvimsadze (195-82) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Guard Lasha Parghalava (191-87, college: Montana St. - Billin) replied with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and American forward Richard Damus (198-83, college: Troy) added 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Sokhumi. Five Kutaisi and four Sokhumi players scored in double figures. Kutaisi have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Army, which they share with MIA Tbilisi. Sokhumi at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Kutaisi is looking forward to face Samedicino-Academia (#8) in Tbilisi in the next round where they are favorite. Sokhumi's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi GTU.
