Argentina
Second Stage Round 25: Argentino - La Union 81-83
Date: March 18, 2011
Very predictable result in Junin where third ranked La Union (16-9) edged bottom-ranked Argentino (8-17) 83-81 on Friday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-20. But Argentino won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panamanian-Spanish power forward Ruben Garces (206-73, college: Providence, agency: Priority Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and American guard David Jackson (196-82, college: Penn St.) chipped in 22 points. At the losing side American power forward Joseph Bunn (198-75, college: Phillips, OK) responded with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (made all of his eighteen free throws !!!) and the other American import power forward Norman Nolan (202-76, college: Virginia) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. La Union have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Argentino lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 17 games lost. La Union will face Estudiantes (#7) in Bahia Blanca in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Argentino will play at home against Regatas Corrientes (#12).
