Regular Season Round 5: Guasave - Tijuana 96-93

Important game to mention about took place in Guasave. Fourth ranked Frayles de Guasave (4-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (2-3) 96-93 on Friday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tijuana Zonkeys won third quarter 28-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Frayles de Guasave won last quarter 27-25. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuana Zonkeys' 44. Tijuana Zonkeys were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 5 assists. The former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Funn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave's coach Marcelo Elusich allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American center Gene Shipley (206-79, college: Brandon, agency: Elleby Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks and guard Luis Ramirez (180-82) added 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys. Frayles de Guasave moved-up to second place, which they share with Hermosillo. Tijuana Zonkeys lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with three games lost. Frayles de Guasave will again play against Tijuana Zonkeys (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round.
