Regular Season Round 18: GSAU Tbilisi - MIA Academy 68-85
Date: March 19, 2011
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#4) and GSAU (#10). GSAU was smashed at home by 17 points 68-85 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by MIA. GSAU was better in third quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded GSAU 46-35 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. MIA players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by GSAU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Cameroonian forward Talba Toudjani (201-80) who scored 5 points and 16 rebounds. American guard Troy Cotton (185-88, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard George Khaniashvili (194-89) who recorded 20 points and guard Davit Artsividze (178-83) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. MIA (12-4) moved-up to third place, which they share with Kutaisi. GSAU lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 13 games lost. MIA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi TSU.
