There was no surprise when 10th ranked Ironi Ashkelon (5-17) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Galil Gilboa (13-9) 89-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Galil Gilboa. Ironi Ashkelon managed to win second period 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Galil Gilboa forced 20 Ironi Ashkelon turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. International point guard Gal Mekel (193-88, college: Wichita St.) scored 15 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Courtney Fells (198-86, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Galil Gilboa players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Rahshon Turner (201-75, college: Fairleigh Dickinson, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Gur Porat (197-79) scored 12 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Bnei Hasharon. Loser Ironi Ashkelon stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Galil Gilboa will meet at home league's leader Maccabi T-A in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ironi Ashkelon will play against Maccabi Haifa (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
