Date: March 20, 2011
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Atenas' (14-12) road loss to fourth ranked Lanus (16-10) 96-103. The hosts were ahead by 6 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 34-26 run, which allowed them to win the game. Lanus shot 63.0 percent from the field and made 25-of-29 charity shots (86.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Lanus especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Atenas' players. American center Terrell Taylor (203-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Dream Team Management) notched 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international guard Mariano Byro (195-82) supported him with 22 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Lanus' coach Silvio Jose Santander allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 20 points and 5 rebounds by the former international swingman Matias Lescano (196-79) did not help to save the game for Atenas. American forward Gregory Lewis (198-78, college: Winthrop, agency: Dream Team Management) added 18 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Four Lanus and five Atenas players scored in double figures. Lanus moved-up to second place, which they share with La Union and Penarol. Atenas at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. Lanus' next round opponent will be Sionista (#15) in Parana which should be an easy win for them. Atenas will play at home against Gimnasia CR (#6) in Comodoro R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
