We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Basket Esch (13-10) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Sparta (13-10) 97-61 on Sunday. The game without a history. Sparta led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Basket Esch to just 6 points in second quarter. Sparta dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Basket Esch's 44. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Larrie Smith (197-75, college: Tennessee Tech) who scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Lucas Hargrove (198-88, college: Auburn, agency: 540 Sports) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Sparta players scored in double figures. Sparta's coach Olaf Stolz felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International forward Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and American forward John Reimold (198-81, college: Bowling Green) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sparta moved-up to fourth place in League. Sparta will meet higher ranked Amicale (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Basket Esch will play against the league's leader T71 in Dudelange and hope to secure a win.
