Second Stage Round 27: MH Basket - Argentino 93-83
Date: March 25, 2011
Rather expected game when 16th ranked Argentino (8-19) lost on the road to fourteenth ranked Monte Hermoso (10-17) 93-83 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Monte Hermoso. Argentino was better in second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for guard Hernando Salles (188-79) who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!) and 7 assists. American-Uruguayan center Reque Newsome (204-81, college: S.Indiana) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Monte Hermoso players scored in double figures. Monte Hermoso's coach Mauricio Santangelo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Norman Nolan (202-76, college: Virginia) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import power forward Joseph Bunn (198-75, college: Phillips, OK) added 31 points and 4 steals (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Argentino. Newly promoted Monte Hermoso maintains fourteenth place with 10-17 record. Argentino lost sixth consecutive game. Argentino at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Monte Hermoso will face higher ranked Estudiantes (#5) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Argentino will play on the road against the league's second-placed Penarol (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
