Second Stage Round 6: T71 - Basket Esch 89-83

Diekirch League top team - T71 (19-5) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Basket Esch (13-11) in Dudelange 89-83. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 48-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. T71 made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. International guard Tom Schumacher (190-87, college: Cal.Baptist) scored 29 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Denell Stephens (193-86, college: Slippery Rock, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward John Reimold (198-81, college: Bowling Green) with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and Slovakian power forward Stefan Svitek (203-77) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first position in League with 19-5 record. Newly promoted Basket Esch keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. T71 will face Residence (#6) in Bereldange in the next round where they are favorite. Basket Esch will play at home against Amicale in Steinsel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
