Rather predictable result when eleventh ranked Asefa Estudiantes (14-13) won against 13th ranked CAI Zaragoza (12-15) in Madrid 106-89 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Asefa Estudiantes. CAI Zaragoza was better in third quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Asefa Estudiantes dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to CAI Zaragoza's 28. They outrebounded CAI Zaragoza 31-18 including 21 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for center German Gabriel (207-80) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American-Dominican power forward Josh Asselin (211-78, college: Michigan, agency: Duran International) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Asefa Estudiantes moved-up to ninth place, which they share with DKV Joventut and Gran Canaria. Newly promoted CAI Zaragoza keeps the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Asefa Estudiantes will face higher ranked Caja Laboral (#4) in Vitoria in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CAI Zaragoza will play at home against Assignia Manresa (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
