Fourteenth-ranked Monte Hermoso (10-18) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Estudiantes (16-11). The visitors from Bahia Blanca managed to secure only two-point victory 93-91. However their fans expected much easier game. Monte Hermoso was ahead by 17 points after three quarters before a 27-10 charge of Estudiantes, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-11. Estudiantes made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Monte Hermoso outrebounded Estudiantes 40-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The winners were led by naturalized Italian guard Juan Espil (194-68) who scored that evening 29 points and American forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut, agency: Dream Team Management) supported him with 21 points (made all of his seven free throws). Even a double-double of 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) by American power forward Byron Johnson (201-80, college: Belm.Abbey, agency: Dream Team Management) did not help to save the game for Monte Hermoso. American-Uruguayan center Reque Newsome (204-81, college: S.Indiana) added 22 points and 14 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Estudiantes have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Lanus. Newly promoted Monte Hermoso dropped to the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. Estudiantes will play against league's second-placed Penarol in Mar del Plata in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Monte Hermoso will play at home against the league's second-placed Penarol (#2) in Mar del Plata and hopes to get back on the winning track.
