Sixteenth-ranked Meridiano Alicante (7-20) was very close to win a game against twelfth ranked DKV Joventut (14-13) in Badalona on Sunday. DKV Joventut managed to secure only two-point victory 75-73. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Meridiano Alicante won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when DKV Joventut won last quarter 20-19. DKV Joventut outrebounded Meridiano Alicante 41-21 including a 35-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Pere Tomas (202-89) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Jordi Trias (207-80) contributed with 7 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) answered with 28 points and 7 rebounds and guard Pedro Llompart (190-82) added 8 points and 6 assists in the effort for Meridiano Alicante. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. DKV Joventut moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Estudiantes and Gran Canaria. Meridiano Alicante lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 20 games lost. DKV Joventut will face higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Meridiano Alicante will play against Lagun Aro GBC (#14) in San Sebastian and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
