Regular Season Round 11: Nogales - Guaymas 79-81

The most exciting game of round 11 in the CIBACOPA took place in Nogales. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (6-5) to seventh ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-6) 81-79 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fuerza Guinda Nogales. Fuerza Guinda Nogales were trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-22 charge of Ostioneros de Guaymas, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ostioneros de Guaymas made 24 blocks. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks. Guard Jose Luis Bucio (179-86) contributed with 14 points and 4 blocks (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach Eduardo Opezzo used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. A.Broxsie answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and American swingman Bryant Matthews (201-82, college: Virginia Tech) added 20 points and 4 blocks in the effort for Fuerza Guinda Nogales. Five Fuerza Guinda Nogales players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains seventh place with 5-6 record, which they share with Mexicali. Fuerza Guinda Nogales at the other side keep the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Tijuana. Ostioneros de Guaymas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will play again at home against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
