Second Stage Round 29: Penarol - Wuber-Est.Bahia 97-83
Date: March 30, 2011
Not a big story in a game in Mar del Plata where 6th ranked Estudiantes (16-13) was defeated by second ranked Penarol (19-10) 97-83 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Penarol. Estudiantes was better in second period 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey, agency: KMG Sports Management) who scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. International forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Lamonte is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. American forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut, agency: Dream Team Management) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and American-Spanish forward Devin Davis (202-74, college: Miami, OH) added 13 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Penarol. Defending champion maintains second place with 19-10 record having just two points less than leader Obras. Loser Estudiantes keeps the sixth position with 13 games lost. Penarol will face Monte Hermoso (#14) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Estudiantes will play against Argentino (#16) in Junin.
